It’s Official

It’s official. I will be running alongside Sean Monahan and Martín Arocho for spots on the New Brunswick Board of Education on April 16.

I am the youngest and only student candidate.

All Three Incumbents to Run on Their Record and Face Challengers For The First Time

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ—Three incumbents appointed to serve on the city’s school board by Mayor James Cahill will seek election to the board for the first time this April, after voters ditched the appointed system in a close vote last November.

The incumbents include John Krenos, Benito Ortiz, and the board’s Vice President Patricia Sadowski. They are facing challenges from Martin Arocho, a former appointed board member who lost in his bid to return to the school board this January, political newcomer Stephanie Rivera, and Sean Monahan, the publisher of this newspaper.

The top three vote-getters will join the board at their re-organization meeting on April 30. Board members are unpaid volunteers who serve three-year terms.

The election is scheduled for April 16 and voting is open to all citizens of New Brunswick over age 18, including Rutgers students who reside in the city. Polls will be open from 7am to 9pm, according to Board of Education Secretary Richard Jannarone.
